We offer two distinct types of eye exams: Routine Eye Exams and Medical Eye Exams.
We strongly advise annual, comprehensive Routine Eye Exams for a full health check of your eyes. This enables us to determine the strength of your vision and any correction needed with the help of glasses and/or contacts. By visiting an eye doctor yearly, individuals can receive preventative care to address any vision or eye problems and detect underlying health conditions.
For Medical Eye Exams, some of the conditions we specialize in managing include dry eye, diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration, cataracts, conjunctivitis, glaucoma, eyelid conditions, keratoconus, retinitis pigmentosa, flashes, and floaters.
Although common, dry eyes can lead to more than just discomfort. Those who have endured this condition understand the impact and annoyance it can have on simple daily activities, and the ability to be productive. You may not know that if not properly treated, dry eye can potentially lead to long-term infections or eye damage.
Symptoms of dry eye can include scratchy or gritty feelings, burning sensations, red or watery eyes, sensitivity to light, blurry vision, eye fatigue, and discomfort when wearing contacts. If any of these symptoms are your experience, we encourage you to book an appointment with us so we can identify the cause and help you find relief.
When obtaining a prescription for contact lenses, it's important to note that it differs from a regular prescription for glasses. This is because contact lenses are placed directly on the cornea, the front surface of the eye. As a medical device, it's crucial to have proper fitting and evaluation to ensure your comfort. During your exam, we'll assess your overall eye health to determine the best lens option. Additionally, measurements will be taken to ensure proper sizing.
We take into account your lifestyle, vision needs, and expectations for wearing contact lenses. Whether you wear them occasionally or frequently, we'll work with you to find the right fit across our manufacturers that make a range of contact lenses, including those for astigmatism and presbyopia.
Myopia is a very common condition, also known as nearsightedness (when individuals are able to see objects that are close to them but may have difficulty distinguishing things at a distance.) Although it is a common condition, it can be associated with more threatening eye conditions such as glaucoma, cataracts, and retinal detachment. While there is no known cure for myopia at the moment, leaders in the eye care field are searching for ways to decelerate its progression in children and young adults as the eyes endure more rapid development during this period.
Some solutions to help with myopia control include Ortho-K contact lenses, Atropine eye drops, and Misight contact lenses. Ortho-K or Orthokeratology is a practice that uses a special type of contact lens worn overnight to gently reshape the eye. Atropine eye drops help to relax the eye muscles and prevent strain, while Misight contact lenses aim to reduce strain on the eyes.
Myopia that is not treated quickly can cause serious eye conditions, affecting your child’s ability to visually engage with the world around them. If your child struggles to see objects at a distance, or if you notice changes in their behavior or grades at school, their ability to play sports, or that they may even be pulling back from playing with friends, it’s important to seek professional help as soon as possible. Contact us today to schedule an appointment and find out how we can best help your child.
Our world is just beginning to delve into the effects of screen time on our health. One of the first places we can see impacted is the eyes – more specifically, we see conditions such as digital eye strain, also known as computer vision syndrome. A substantial percentage of Americans suffer from this condition. If you’re experiencing discomfort as a result of your screen usage, we are experienced in helping you find solutions and relief.
Through our years of experience, we strongly believe in the power of monitoring your general well-being through regular eye care checkups, which should include the optomap® Retinal Exam. This exam utilizes technology that provides extensive data to inform our doctors with a comprehensive report of your retinal health.
Even when eye problems go unnoticed due to not impacting your vision, diseases such as glaucoma, macular degeneration, retinal tears or detachments, and other health concerns such as high blood pressure and diabetes can be detected through an extensive retinal examination. The assessment is easy, quick, and comfortable, with images immediately displaying on the computer screen, allowing us to review and explain your results alongside you with visual aid.
Common eye emergencies we can treat include:
Floaters, flashes, or retinal detachments
Corneal abrasions (scratches on the eye’s surface)
Foreign objects stuck in the eye
Eye diseases
Chemical splashes or burns
Infections like conjunctivitis (pink eye)
